چکیده

The conversion of glucose-l-Cl4 to ascorbic acid-6-Cl4 and uniformly labeled glucose-Cl4 to uniformly labeled ascorbic acid-Cl4 in the Chloretonestimulated albino rat has been demonstrated (1, 2). To provide further evidence for a direct conversion of glucose to ascorbic acid and to eliminate pathways similar to that suggested by Bidder (3) for glucuronic acid formation, glucose-6-Cl4 has been used in a similar experiment, and a total degradation of the ascorbic acid thus formed has been carried out.

Ascorbic Acid Synthesis from D-Glucose-%C1* in the Liver of the Intact Rat

Evidence that glucose1 is the ultimate g-carbon precursor of ascorbic acid in the rat was first obtained by Jackel, Mosbach, Burns, and King (1). They administered uniformly labeled glucose-C** to Chloretone-treated rats and recovered uniformly labeled ascorbic acid from the urine. Subsequently, Horowitz, Doerschuk, and King (2) and Burns and Mosbach (3) discovered that when glucose-l-C14 was a...

The conversion of C14-labeled glucose cycloacetoacetate to L-ascorbic acid in germinating Phaseolus radiatus.

The investigations by Xath, Chitale, and Belavady (1) showed that when n-glucose1 and an equimolar amount of sodium acetoacetate is fed to germinating mung beans or injected into rats (a), the production of n-ascorbic acid is greater than with glucose alone. It was further observed (2) that a condensation product of glucose and acetoacetate (glucose cycloacetoacetate ethyl ester) can be easily ...

Ascorbic acid synthesis in normal and drug-treated rats, studied with L-ascorbic-1-C14 acid.

It is known that, of all animal species studied, only man, other Primates, and the guinea pig are unable to synthesize ascorbic acid. Results obtained in rats, with radioactive glucose, indicate that ascorbic acid is synthesized by a fairly direct route from glucose (l-3), but no information has been available concerning the rate of synthesis and metabolism of ascorbic acid. Such information wo...

In Vitro Effect of ?-Tocopherol, Ascorbic Acid and Lycopene on Low Density Lipoprotein Glycation

Nonenzymatic glycation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) is a reaction of glucose and other reducing sugars with apolipoprotein B100 (apo-B100) lysine residues. In diabetes, this reaction is greatly accelerated and is important in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications. The objective of this study was to investigate in vitro effects of ?-tocopherol, ascorbic acid and lycopene on LDL glycatio...
